WHO WE ARE
Necessity is the mother of invention, and Public Assistants is its daughter. Born from the depths of COVID-19, Public Assistants shapes itself within its community. Now a design studio and creative agency, we know we cannot thrive if we do not first understand. Our projects and programming respond to the needs of those around us, building with care, creativity, and purpose.
Public Assistants Inc. (PA)—a community design studio and creative agency now in its fifth year—is to build community-powered cultural spaces that expand creative, economic, and narrative agency for New Yorkers, especially those pushed to the margins. A core part of this work is helping our communities reclaim the means of cultural production by designing, and producing our own media—books, commercials, exhibitions, and other forms of storytelling that shape how we see ourselves in the world.
